Moody's Ratings has reaffirmed the state's Aaa credit rating with a stable outlook.
State Treasurer Curtis Loftis announced the news June 16, 2025, emphasizing the significant benefits the top-tier rating brings to the Palmetto State.
“My office has worked diligently over the past year to maintain consistent communication and provide comprehensive information to our rating agency partners,” Loftis said. “The importance of a Aaa rating cannot be overstated – it directly translates to lower borrowing costs for our state.”
The reaffirmation was part of Moody's annual review process for the state and not tied to any pending bond issuance.
The State Treasurer's Office, through its Debt Management Division, plays a vital role in managing the borrowings for the state, its agencies, and certain authorities.
The division is dedicated to securing the most efficient and effective borrowing terms, always striving for the lowest rates and fees while protecting the interests of lenders, investors, and bondholders.
