New Grants of Up to $20,000 Available to Columbia County Small Businesses

CEDC is inviting existing Columbia County entrepreneurs and those who are interested in starting a small business to submit applications for Columbia County’s new 2026 Microenterprise Grant Program. The program will make grants of up to $20,000 available to eligible businesses, backed by a $270,000 award to Columbia County from New York State.

“Small businesses are essential to the strength and vitality of Columbia County,” said Matt Murell, chairman of the Columbia County board of supervisors. “This program will give local entrepreneurs access to capital, practical training and an opportunity to create jobs.”

Eligible applicants must operate a private, for-profit business in Columbia County and have five or fewer employees, including the owner or owners. Both start-ups and existing businesses are expected to receive funding.

Grant funds can support purchases such as machinery, furniture, fixtures, and equipment, as well as eligible working-capital needs. Recipients must provide a cash contribution of at least 10 percent of the total project cost.

“This program combines meaningful financial assistance with the knowledge entrepreneurs need to build sustainable businesses.  When paired with an SBA Microloan from CEDC, the grant provides additional capital toward a startup or existing business while reducing the amount that needs to be repaid," said Jonathan Spampinato, president and CEO of CEDC.

“We look forward to working closely with applicants, helping them strengthen their plans and turning this investment into new businesses, stronger existing businesses and quality jobs across Columbia County.”

Participants will complete CEDC’s Microbusiness Seminar Series in February 2027 at the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce. Training will address legal issues, accounting, marketing, and business-plan development.
