Ritedose Makes Another Investment in South Carolina

A Columbia-based pharmaceutical manufacturer has announced the expansion of its laboratories to partner with life-sciences companies around the state and nation.

The Ritedose Corporation, founded in South Carolina in 1995, expects the $17 million investment to expand its analytical chemistry and microbiology capabilities significantly, while tripling the laboratory footprint and creating one of the most advanced analytical testing environments in the Southeast.

“This laboratory expansion is an investment in both Ritedose and in the growing South Carolina life sciences ecosystem,” CEO Jody Chastain told Columbia Business Monthly. “We want South Carolina to be a place where an innovative idea can start, receive the scientific and manufacturing support it needs, and ultimately reach patients here and around the country."

Located inside the newest facility inside Ritedose Performance Park, the company said the new lab strengthens its ability to support pharmaceutical partners from early-stage development through commercial manufacturing, while expanding analytical services available to the broader life sciences community.

Ritedose is already the largest sterile contract manufacturer in the U.S. while specializing in advanced Blow-Fill-Seal (BFS) technology — an automated closed-system process that forms, fills, and seals single-dose liquid medications under strict aseptic conditions.

Meanwhile, South Carolina’s life sciences industry generates over $20 billion annually in economic impact, according to SCbio, and is the fastest-growing life sciences ecosystem in the Southeast.

The industry supports nearly 64,000 jobs around the state with over 1,000 life sciences companies in 42 of the state’s 46 counties.
