Michael Amiridis became the 30th president of the University of South Carolina in 2022. Since his arrival, USC has seen record growth in applications for admission, enrollment, external research grants and fundraising dollars, with significant donor investments that led to the naming of three USC colleges. Amiridis earned a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1991. As a researcher, he has published 110 peer-reviewed articles in archival journals and received over $22 million in external funding. He was elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2012 and a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers in 2015. Prior to becoming president, Amiridis spent more than two decades at USC, where he held several positions, including dean of the College of Engineering and Computing.
