In partnership with South Carolina’s American Revolution 250 Anniversary Commission, the South Carolina State Fair hosted the SC250 Ceremony in Columbia, South Carolina to commemorate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.
The event featured remarks from Governor Henry McMaster, who officially proclaimed October 9 as “America 250 Day” in South Carolina. Other notable speakers included Nancy L. Smith (general manager, SC State Fair), Carl Blackstone (president & CEO, Columbia Chamber), and Ellen Weaver (State Superintendent of Education).
The ceremony coincided with one of the fair’s annual Military Appreciation Days, when active-duty military, Veterans, and their families received free admission in recognition of their service. SCDVA was proud to be on-site engaging with Veterans and families, sharing information on benefits, programs, and community resources, and honoring South Carolina’s enduring legacy of service.
The final Military Appreciation Day will be held Thursday, October 16, and the SC250 exhibit— featuring immersive displays, reenactments, and Revolutionary War artifacts — remains open through Sunday, October 19.
