Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC), local architecture and engineering firm, has announced the addition of two professionals to its team. Maya McCray joins GMC as Design Associate, and Alexandra Schell steps into the role of Marketing Coordinator. These appointments reflect the company’s continued growth and commitment to building communities in the Columbia area.

McCray is returning to her roots in Columbia after a period in Atlanta. She brings nearly a decade of experience to the team with her scope ranging from commercial and retail to healthcare, civic, and education. In her previous roles, McCray has contributed to the design and development of high-quality construction documents and design presentations, collaborating closely with architects, engineers, and interior designers.

McCray’s technical proficiency, combined with hands-on experience in client meetings, project coordination, and field verification, makes her an asset to GMC’s growing portfolio. Her ability to blend functional design with creative vision aligns perfectly with the firm’s dedication to delivering thoughtful, innovative solutions for clients.

“We are thrilled to welcome Maya to the GMC team,” Columbia architecture practice leader Justin Lucas, said. “Maya’s strong background across diverse project types brings a wealth of knowledge and perspective to our growing practice. Her devotion to design excellence and collaboration reflects the values we hold as a firm. We’re excited to see the impact she’ll have on our work and the communities we serve.”

Schell is tapping into GMC’s corporate services in the Columbia office after five years of executing multi-channel marketing and strategic initiatives, enhancing visibility. She brings a proven track record of boosting engagement and delivering high-impact campaigns.

In addition to her marketing expertise, Schell brings a strong foundation in program development and leadership through her work as a co-creator and coordinator of Fathers 4 Daughters. This combination of storytelling and community-focused leadership aligns with our mission of building strong client relationships and better communities.

“Alexandra brings a dynamic energy and strategic mindset that complements our vision at GMC,” project manager Nicholas deBessonet, said. “Her background in multi-channel marketing and community engagement uniquely positions her to elevate our brand and connect our work with the people and places it impacts. We’re proud to have her on board as we continue to grow and tell the story of our commitment to building better communities.”
