The University of South Carolina Board of Trustees (BOT) is once again at full membership following recent elections by the General Assembly.

Newly elected trustees Richard Bonnoitt (4th Judicial Circuit) and Frederick “Schipp” Johnston (15th Judicial Circuit) will fill seats that had been vacant since 2022.

Lawmakers also formally elected Coleman Floyd Buckhouse (12th Judicial Circuit) and J. Strom Thurmond Jr. (2nd Judicial Circuit), who had been serving as gubernatorial appointees.

Trustees are selected through a multi-step legislative process that includes application, screening by the College and University Trustee Screening Commission, and final election by the General Assembly.
