Terminix Service, Inc. Leadership Inducted into the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame

Junior Achievement of Greater South Carolina recently announced the induction of Lex Knox and Tommy Fortson into the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame. As business leaders at Terminix Service, Inc., Knox, Chairman of the Board and CEO, and Fortson, Vice Chairman, have demonstrated integrity, leadership, and commitment to their communities, embodying the core values of Junior Achievement.
Junior Achievement of Greater South Carolina recently announced the induction of Lex Knox and Tommy Fortson into the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame. As business leaders at Terminix Service, Inc., Knox, Chairman of the Board and CEO, and Fortson, Vice Chairman, have demonstrated integrity, leadership, and commitment to their communities, embodying the core values of Junior Achievement.
Established in 1985 by Junior Achievement and The State newspaper, the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame honors champions of free enterprise and showcases business role models for students in grades K-12. Induction as a Laureate is a lifetime achievement award recognizing individuals who have made a lasting, positive impact on the state’s economic and business landscape.
Lex Knox has built a career in ethical business practices and corporate responsibility. His leadership has fostered economic growth and improved the lives of employees and the broader community. Recognized for his integrity, Knox has set a standard of excellence that inspires future generations. In addition to his leadership at Terminix, Knox has contributed to various volunteer and professional associations, including serving as the Chairman of the Administrative Board of Shandon United Methodist Church and Chair of its Finance Committee, as well as Chair of the Board of Trustees of Columbia College, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Midlands Technical College Foundation, and a member of the Board of Trustees of Hammond School, Children’s Hospital Foundation, and Wesley Commons (a United Methodist Retirement Community). He has served as President of the Terminix National Council of Franchises (TNC) and was also a charter member who served for 35 years in the St. Andrews Rotary Club.
“I deeply appreciate the recognition Junior Achievement has bestowed upon me. Although I feel unworthy, it’s a great honor to be inducted into the Business Hall of Fame, and I’m truly thankful," said Lex Knox. “I have been extremely fortunate and blessed throughout my life. Any accomplishment I may have achieved is due to my family, many friends, and colleagues at Terminix Service, who have made it all possible.”
Tommy Fortson has made a lasting impact on South Carolina through his business acumen and civic contributions. His commitment to innovation and community engagement has raised the state's profile. Fortson’s leadership exemplifies the values of respect and excellence, making him a role model for aspiring entrepreneurs and young professionals. Throughout his career, Fortson has served his state in various capacities, including the Pesticide Advisory Board, Regulatory Review Committee, Chairman of Clemson University’s Agriculture and Public Service Advisory Board, and President of the South Carolina Pest Management Association. He has been President of the Terminix National Council, President of the North Carolina Pest Management Association, and has contributed to the National Pest Management Association’s Executive Committee and the Professional Pest Management Alliance as Chairman for 15 years. Furthermore, Fortson has been a board member of the Riverbanks Zoo Society, a long-time member of the South Carolina Philharmonic board, and actively supports the local arts and humanities, including Pawmetto Lifeline, the University of South Carolina Athletics and Academics, and St. David's Episcopal Church.
